Rugby Europe Championship: The Twentieth Victory over Russia and One Step to the Title

As it was expected, the Georgian national rugby union team beat Russia in the fourth round of Rugby Europe Championship.

It was a quite tough match. The weather was not good in Krasnodar. It was raining and even hailing in the second half. At first the Russians played better in such weather conditions. Captain Yuri Kushnarev scored 3 penalties in the first 40 minutes. Georgia responded with a single try and conversion at the 25th minute. The first half finished 9:7 in favorite of the hosts.

The Lelos started the second half much better and finally, we won with bonus. At the 48th minute Soso Matiashvili scored a penalty and the Georgians advanced.

At the 66th minute Kakha Aseishvili scored a try. At the 72nd minute Mikheil Gachechiladze scored a try and at the 77th minute Merab Kvirikashvili scored a try – 9:29.

Georgia defeated Russia for the 20th time. We lost only once in 1993 and played tie in 2002.

Captain Giorgi Nemsadze earned the 80th cap, Mikheil Nariashvili – the 50th, Lasha Lomidze – the 40th and Kakha Aseishvili – the 30th.
