Georgian U-20 rugby team showed up on the field to win over Ireland and the start was great, but everything was upside down at the 8th minute.
At this time, we received a try from the opponent, but it was not important. The main thing happened in the center of the field a few seconds before this try. Ilia Spanderashvili made an unforgivable mistake. He kicked the opponent, who was not in a hurry to get up and did not allow him to return to the game.
I am sure, that Spanderashvili soon realized his mistake, but it was too late. More responsibility is required at the World Championship, even at the level of U-20. At such level, the referees might miss something, but it’s hard to hide anything from the video-referee. He was accused and the referee showed the deserved red card. After this, it became clear that we could not even imagine about the sensation over Ireland and we had the only goal – to lose with a small difference.
Everything started very well. In the first seconds we made clear that we were disposed to fight. Vasil Lobzhanidze scored the first try at the World Championship. Davit Modzgvrishvili made a try conversion and Georgian promoted 7:0.
Ireland momentarily turned on the maximum speed, mixed up the Georgian’s defense and Mcphillips converted the try of Kenan. Moreover, during the first 10 minutes, we lost three corridors of 4.
In short, if we sum up the last three matches, we will see our mistakes – indiscipline and very weak game in the corridor.
At the end of the half, Mcphillips made the score 20:7. At the 59th minute, the opponent scored another try. Finally, Ireland managed to score four tries.
The Georgian national team lost the match 7:35 and as expected, took the 4th place. On June 20, Georgia faces Italy.
