Ilia Zedginidze, presidential candidate of the Georgian Rugby Union, held a press conference at “Citadel” hotel. Zedginidze confirmed that he wants to run the Union for the next 4 years. He is going to present his program on January 20.

Veteran and current rugby players, including Irakli Abuseridze and Irakli Machkhaneli, attended the meeting.

Ilia Zedginidze: “Thank you for coming and I want to wish the whole country Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I want to state that I am participating in election because of my commitment to the Georgian rugby. We will present our program for rugby development on January 20.

Yet, 13 subjects presented my candidature but their number will be increased up to 20-22. A club may present a candidate but in election it can vote for another one.

We must pay more attention to internal competition, school rugby. In the previous years the teams had incredible results but quality of the game must be increased.

We all agree on head coach of the Georgian national rugby union team. Milton Haig carried out his plan. The team won 2 games at World Cup and contract extension is absolutely logical”.

Irakli Abuseridze: “Ilia Zedginidze does not need extra instruction. We have achieved a lot in the national team. When I withdrew my candidature, we thought a lot and finally, we agreed on a worthy candidate. In case of Ilia’s victory, we will try to work professionally”.

The presidential election of the Georgian Rugby Union will be held on January 24. Besides Zedginidze, Gocha Svanidze also presented his candidature.
