Ilia Maisuradze: "We Do not Think about Final yet"

Ilia Maisuradze, head coach of the Georgia U-20 rugby team, stated it is early to think about final yet.

After beating Uruguay and Fiji, the Georgia national team has a good chance to make through to final of World Rugby Trophy. Portugal will be the last opponent of the Georgians at the group stage.

Post-match

Ilia Maisuradze (head coach of the U-20 team): “We knew it would be a tough match. We were trying to keep the ball and to have the opponent under pressure. I want to thank the boys and everybody who supported us. Now we will have a rest and then start preparing for the next match”.

To the question of “World Rugby” if Georgia is able to win Trophy, Ilia Maisuradze answered: “We are preparing for each match step by step. Today we overcame Fiji obstacle and now we are preparing for the match against Portugal. If we win, we will think about the next match then”.

Zurab Amonashvili (head coach of the U-20 team): “Our task was to keep the ball and have Fiji under pressure.

Unlike the previous match, we made more accent on defense. Today we managed to have the opponent under pressure and it had a good outcome. Fiji is a very good team. I want to highlight that our boys played calmly and carried out instructions well. It means our players have better class now.

I want to thank our fitness team because the boys are in perfect form. Today we will enjoy this victory and tomorrow we will start preparing for the upcoming match”.

The captain of the Fiji team praised the Georgians: “The Georgians were mobilized and played perfectly. I think they are favorites and can win Trophy. Hopefully, soon we will meet each other at high level”.
