The Georgia U-20 team defeated Uruguay 46:12 in the first match of 2015 World Rugby U-20 Trophy. After a good first half the South Americans provoked the Georgian which ended up with Badri Alkhazashvili’s sent-off.
The organizers will discuss this episode and punishment will be known later. Before that head coach Ilia Maisuradze and Irakli Abuseridze, sports director of the Georgian Rugby Union, summarized the previous match.
Post-match
Ilia Maisuradze (head coach of the U-20 team): “The team had instruction to be better than the opponent in scrum and lineout. The boys played 40 minutes well.
After a clash our game did not go right way. Uruguay was trying to provoke us during the whole match. Finally, our opponent did it and unfortunately, we were punished with red cards. Our captain was sent off but, then we received two sin-bins but I want to note that the team managed to settle the situation.
As for our future opponent, Fiji had a huge advantage in open game. To my surprise, the islanders were better than Portugal in scrum. We will prepare for the upcoming match properly”.
Irakli Abuseridze (sports director of the Rugby Union): “The boys managed to beat the opponent in every component. The Uruguayans were trying to provoke our boys during the whole match. Finally, clash occurred in the second half and Badri Alkhazishvili received red card. Our managers are talking to the tournament organizers. They will analyze the video and make a decision.
This unpleasant episode messed our game but the boys managed to improve the situation. Overall, I will summarize our game positively. The boys do not have any serious injury”.
