We Overcame the Spaniards, and the Referee Too

Georgian national rugby U-19 team will meet Belgium in the final of current European youth Championship in Lisbon and in case of winning, next year will leave for Hong Kong, which will host the World Junior Trophy.

The apprentices of Davit Vartanian along with very strong Spanish team had to play against the judge in the semifinal. The judge often had a rather strange decisions, clearly helping the Spaniards. But the dedication game of Georgians crossed all his efforts and our national team gained a brilliant victory 31:3.

Our boys had full advantage and at the 4th minute Davit Gulitashvili scored a try. At the 13th minute he tackled his opponent so that made him to lose a control on the ball. Attack spread to the right flank and Muraz Giorgadze scored a try. Unfortunately both conversions were inaccurate.

At the 0:10 minute the Spaniards had a powerful attack, they attacked us by Mole twice and even brought the ball into the scoring field, but our defenders have not given them to ground the ball. When the referee saw that Spaniards were equal to Georgians, he made really strange decision and sent Giorgi Talakhadze to sin bin. Despite this, the Georgians played really good.

At the 30th minute, Saba Shubitidze forced his way by struggling on the left flank and gave the ball to Badri Dangadze, who fixed the assist in front of the referee and canceled a try. But after some time the same Dangadze scored a try and Revaz Jinchvelashvili fixed the final score of the first half by conversion – 17:3.

Early in the second half, Georgia had another good attack, broke the opponent’s defense line and Giorgadze scored his second try and fourth of Georgian team. Approximately in 11 minutes, the Georgians have punished the Spaniards for their indecent behavior and provocation by the try and this time Zhora Mgebrishvili showed himself. Giorgi Aptsiauri added another 4 to 10 points by his exact conversions.

The Spaniards fought to the end, but Georgia did not let the opponents to take a penalty box even when the referee sent the Georgian player (Tutberidze) to sin bin, and won the match 31:3.
