Georgia will Play in Hong Kong

Georgian sevens rugby team will participate in World Series Hong Kong on March 22-24 and will try to receive a status of constant member of 2013/2014 series.

World Cup Sevens is held every year. Leading teams participate in it and winner is found out after 9 rounds. There was time when stages were limited but sevens rugby is Olympic sport and interest toward it has increased. The stages are planned to increase up to ten. Selection of the participant teams is also changing. Those constant teams which participate in the series are known. Three teams are added to them.

The first qualifying tournament was held last year. Hong Kong will host this year’s qualifying tournament. The second-placed teams of Japanese, Jamaican and South African championships will be opponents of Georgia in the group. Tonga, Tunis, Taipei, South Africa, Russia, Zimbabwe, Cook Islands and Mexico will be in other groups.

The first stage of the qualifying tournament will be held in Hong Kong and four best teams will go through to the next round. The Hong Kong team and three worst teams of World Series 2012/2013 will be added to them. In May, these 8 teams will play for the next series in London.
